Contemporary Colonial Revival

Perched above the sidewalks on a prominent corner lot, this meticulously restored colonial is the grande dame of Irvington. But, as these homeowners will tell you, along with the charm of any 100-year-old home comes a number of “issues.” For this home, outdoor space was severely underused due to tight, oddly-shaped books around the perimeter of the home, not to mention the concrete front porch that had significant cracks from years of settling.

The Drake’s design-build team updated the look of the old home while maintaining the value of the home in this triumph of old-meets-new. The oddly-shaped books were transformed into moments of surprise and delight. A contemporary fountain brings the home into this century in a shockingly natural way, while a small patio on the previously unused exterior corner of the lot invites the family — and their neighbors to spend more time socializing in front of their home. The team was able to replace only the damaged stairs, saving the homeowners the expense of replacing the entire porch and staircase.
