Steel & Glass Pavilion

As one might guess from the sleek, modernist outdoor space our team created for these Washington homeowners, the house itself is an equally modern space, filled with light and art. The couple envisioned a home that was, “Modern from the inside out,” and “A sculptural space for art collectors.”

White steel was an easy choice given the need to complement the home’s architecture with a light and slender structure. Beautiful white steel columns lift a flat plane of translucent glass, which creates a work of art all its own. In the summer the glass trims back the heat of the sun while radiating a stunning filtered light onto the ground with dramatic, grid-like shadows cast by the purlin substructure. In the winter, raindrops patter on the glass in exciting, artistic arrangements.

A screen wall of powder-coated steel strategically highlights the beautiful surroundings while blocking less desirable views. The integrated see-through fireplace creates a perfect frame for the property’s view of Mount St. Helens.

Drake’s 7 Dees’ Steel and Glass Pavilion was honored by Pacific Northwest design and lifestyle publication, Oregon Home Magazine, and earning a Structure + Style Award for Outdoor Entertaining Space.
