04/03/2009 - Lynn Snodgrass Named Finalist For Business Owner Award

Portland, OR. – The Portland Business Journal announced Wednesday that Lynn Snodgrass, CEO of Drake’s 7 Dees Garden Center, has been named the recipient of their annual “Orchid Awards” which recognize the achievements of Portland area woman business leaders.

Snodgrass is a finalist for “Business Owner of the Year” in the medium/small business category.  This award is selected at the publications annual banquet honoring the “Orchid Award” winners which will be held Thursday April 23rd at the Oregon Convention Center.   

The Orchid Awards, held annually, recognizes 25 prominent Portland-area business women. From the list of 25, six or seven are singled out for their achievements in different business sectors: large business, medium or small business, non-profit and entrepreneur.

The award ceremony, “Women in Business Expo 2009”, will be held Thursday, April 23rd at the Oregon Convention Center. The Las Vegas themed celebration and networking event will feature over 45 exhibitor booths, wine, hors d’oeuvres and music by Karla Harris.

“Lynn Snodgrass has certainly been a leader in our community.  In addition to her public service as a state representative for three terms, Drake’s Garden Center is such a well operated family business,” said Craig Wessel, publisher of the Portland Business Journal.

Lynn Snodgrass is the CEO of Drake’s 7 Dees Garden Center. Together with her husband Drake, CEO of the landscaping company, the duo has successfully operated Drake’s 7 Dees since the early 1970’s. As a business owner, Lynn’s intelligence, professionalism and vast plant knowledge have helped Drake’s 7 Dees Garden Center become one of the Portland area’s largest and most popular.

Lynn, a native Oregonian, has served as a school board member, teacher and classroom volunteer. She has held positions as State Representative of Oregon House District 10, speaker of the Oregon House and was a key contributor in returning the largest tax surplus to Oregon’s families and businesses and was the driving force behind improving education.

For many years, Lynn has been a leader in community service projects. Recipients of Lynn's efforts have been SnowCap, an organization that gives food to those in need, Oregon Association of Nurseries, Gresham Chamber of Commerce, Rockwood Business Association, and Habitat for Humanity.  In addition, Lynn served as President of the Mt. Hood Medical Foundation raising over a million dollars to build the birthing wing at the Gresham facility during her year as president.
